Lecturer Spotlight: Katri Ervamaa

KATRI ERVAMAA

Ann Arbor,

LSA Residential College

Lecturer IV

What is your area of specialty?

My degrees are all in cello performance, but my teaching speciality at the RC is chamber music.

What are you proud of as a lecturer?

I am honored to have been nominated by my Residential College (RC) colleagues for the Collegiate Lecturer Award, because there are so many other deserving lecturers at the Residential College! I have been the RC music program head now for 20 years, and I am very proud of the programs we’ve been able to build to support the “A” in the College of LSA - the Arts in the RC are vibrant and strong, and it's a delight to have not just musicians, but also directors, actors, artists, photographers and writers as close colleagues. I'm very appreciative of the support we get from the RC administration: they challenge us to justify our needs, which makes the process thorough and thoughtful— while sometimes frustrating, it is also very rewarding. I'm also proud of the curricular collaborations and connections that the RC music program has with my alma mater, the School Music, Theater and Dance.

What might others not know about you?

There's a lot that people might not know about me... but perhaps one notable thing is that in addition to being a professional performer myself, in my spare time I work in arts administration supporting some arts-related non-profits in the area, most recently the Randazzo Dance Company.
