LEO Members Raise Funds for Good Jobs Now Canvassers and Families Impacted by Shooting

On November 19th and 20th in Mason Hall on Ann Arbor Central Campus, LEO members and allies held a bake sale to raise funds for the families impacted by an October 29th shooting in Detroit. Two canvassers with Good Jobs Now (GJN) were shot while going door to door encouraging their community to vote. One of the people canvassing was killed in the shooting and the other is in the hospital. You can learn more about Good Jobs Now at their website: goodjobsnow.org.

Around 15 people, mostly Lecturers along with a few community allies, baked goods for the event. Our table was laden with homemade goods, including cherry-pecan-chocolate-chip cookies, Rice Krispie treats, and Michigan-shaped gingerbread that INCLUDED the UP (shoutout to Yoopers)! We raised over $700, all of which will be donated directly to support the families of the two impacted canvassers. You can also donate directly here.

Thank you to everyone who baked for the sale, bought goodies, and helped to staff the table on both days. Thank you to LEO’s hard-working Social Committee for organizing the event. We stand in solidarity with and send deepest condolences to the Good Jobs Now team and the families affected by this shooting.
